Installing the KMP-K
Guidelines
The present guidelines must be applied for cost calculation and execution of the installation
of DanTaet leak detection systems type KMP-K.
The same guidelines apply on system commissioning for approval of the works performed.

Flow meters must be oriented horizontally or vertically, observing the manufacturer's instructions
•
As a rule, Forward and Return flow meters must have the same orientation.
Mechanical meters must always have the same orientation.
Ultrasonic flow meters must have the same orientation if subject to POM
(Permanent Operation Monitoring, in Danish: PDO).
Magnetic inductive flow meters need not have the same orientation, however
it must be assured the measuring electrodes remain in contact with the media at all times.
•
If a Kamstrup flow meter is oriented horizontally, the electronics housing must be
on the side of the meter +/- 45°
•
Correct flow direction in the meters (arrow) must be observed
•
Correct placement of meters Flow/Return must be observed
•
Remember nipples for thermometer sleeves for large meters (by the output port).
On smaller meters (domestic billing meters), the thermometers are inserted into the meter body.
•
A straight pipe section (5x the meter DN) must exist ahead of the meter input port.
Any bends, nipples, and cones, must have this separation from the meter input port.
Any filter as well as the KMP-F Forward Cut-off Valve must be located
after the output port of the Forward Flow Meter.
Limiters, regulation valves etc., including pressure differential regulator
as well as the KMP-F Return Cut-off Valve and Check Valve must be located
after the output port of the Return Flow Meter.
Note when a billing meter is incorporated in the leakage detection system,
the above applies to the billing meter as well!
•
Electrical coupling must be ensured between the Flow and Return meters
unless a heat exchanger is installed in the immediate vicinity of the meters,
cf. Technical Description Kamstrup Multical 602, section 6.3 'Calculator with two flow sensors'
(5512-931 GB/10.2012/Rev.F1)
•
The system's cut-off valves must be placed at the meter output ports
with the actuators pointing upwards or sideways, but never downwards.
•
The Check Valve must be located in the Return pipe between the system's cut-off valve
and the stop cock.
Note for sizes DN65 and upwards - the check valve is for mounting between flanges,
and must not be placed directly against the Return Cut-off Valve, as this will
impede motion of the latter.
•
At low media temperatures, the flow meter bodies should be insulated to prevent condensation.
•
Correct placement of cut-off valves Flow/Return (colour code Orange/Light Blue) must be observed.
